Pietà é uma das mais famosas esculturas feitas por Michelangelo. Ela representa Jesus morto nos braços da Virgem Maria.

The Pietà (1498–1499) by Michelangelo is a marble sculpture in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the first of a number of works of the same theme by the artist.
This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus in the arms of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion.

The last time I visited this sculpture in person it was encased in a heavy square perspex box (ca. 1974!) because someone had attacked it. Is the soft glow lower left coming from the perspex?

I saw the Pieta once surrounded by a billion cameras. The next morning I got up at six and went back, alone, to truly feel the awe. The glare is OK, it's part of the futility of trying to capture the immensity of the sculpture. In fact, I think a perfect photo is somehow disrespectful--- but I studied English Lit. and tend to over-philosophize these things and sound like a pretentious Shakespearian strumpet.

I have a Pieta encased in old wood and glass with a peice that unlocks at the bottom and serves as a tray to seve last communion.from Europe. can anyone tell me abt it. It was my grandparents from Yugoslavia. Thanks Annette sight2c [AT] hotmail [DOT] com
