Fundado no século XV, é o cemitério judeu mais antigo da Europa. Nele sente-se uma profunda atmosfera de dor. Cerca de 12 000 lápides bastante danificadas convivem acanhadamente, mas por baixo, talvez existam mais de 100 000 túmulos, dispostos em camadas devido à falta de espaço.

Por mais seja assustador e que a história demonstre uma "superpopulação", (já basta vivermos em apartamentos, uns colados aos outros, agora até na morte?!, assim como mostra sua foto), eu consigo contemplar um lugar como este e sentir uma incrível paz.
