@Lorraine: Goose barnacles (suborder Lepadomorpha) are filter-feeding crustaceans that live attached to hard surfaces of rocks and flotsam in the ocean intertidal zone. They are easily recognisable by their distinctive long and muscular stalk, which is edible and is considered a delicacy in several Mediterranean countries.

They are growing very fast especially in warm waters but I didn't know that they were comestibles. It makes a nice pattern.

A great picture, equally at home in abstract as much as animal! Looks like adaptive convergence with some mollusca... very interesting!
